Cheers and hola, dear Birdie-readers!
With this freshly written Ibiza vacation – article we come now to the last chapter of our summer-Mediterranean cruise 2015 with the TUI “Mein Schiff 2”.
Fantastic fourteen days of perfect summer-all inclusive – no need to care about anything holiday ends here on spanish ground, same as where it started. You might remember – it started in Palma de Mallorca two weeks ago and now we come to our second spanish isle highlight: Ibiza.
Things to see in Ibiza
Everyone, truly everyone has at least heard of those famous, even legendary Ibiza-parties, which are celebrated here since a felt like eternity or maybe you haven even been there for yourself?
Well, let me point out that this is no post about the hottest clubs there. Here its all about our fantastic impressions, that we had during our stay in Ibiza.
Lets start with our arrival in the morning hours of 2nd of August 2015 in the port of Ibiza. Well, where else to arrive? 😉
Let me bring on here a small point of criticism: Our day of arrival was Sunday, which meant in that case for the guests of Mein Schiff 2, that there was no free shuttle service like usual from the ship to the main port area. Instead there were 3 (three!) busses from a local bus service shuttling to bring all ship guests (approximately 1,000, probably more) between the stations.
And on top this even cost extra (I have to mention that usually all those services were already inclusive).
Well, so we stood there in the queue with a hot shining sun, waiting for the bus.
Yes, because of this not so well organized crossing we lost about one hour from the anyway quite short time budget.
But let’s not drag us down because of this, there was this party isle waiting to be discovered after all.
And some minutes we already arrived at Avinguda de Santa Eulària des Riu, from where we directly entered Ibiza by walking.
The way led us through tiny alleys like Carrer de Jaume I, Carrer d’Anníbal and other Carrers full of those little, white shining houses, which are so typical for south of europe along the small boat harbor, where we have seen this gigantic, majestic yacht, not even comparable with the ones in Monaco.
Things to do in Ibiza
And at the end of our walk it awaited us this hill withe the Catedral de Santa Maria throning on top of this town center.
And oh let me tell you how those cute little houses nestled along these paths up to the top – like fairytalish!
The town center itself, in Catalan called Eivissa is existing since around 2,000 years! It was exactly founded in 654BC by Phoenicians.
They first dedicated the island to Bes (Egyptian god).
Bes – the god of dance.
So the tradition of partying on this island comes from a very long time 🙂
This old spirit and history you can feel while striding the alleys.
It reminded me also a bit of Oia in Santorini, Greece, kind of similar this magic little outlying place.
We really liked the old town, so peaceful and everything in white.
Many famous people have also visited Ibiza and left their hand-prints there, we saw some nice ones from Penelope Cruz.
Long story short: a truly marvellous place!
Not least because of the opressive sun the places and alleys were empty and deserted.
What fascinated us, is that behind every little corner you discovered something new. The big goal of course was reaching the Cathedral de Santa Maria and then making the turn westwards and going down the hill on the coastside.
Said and done, the Cathedral Santa Maria De Las Nieves itself and the metres thick walls are worth a visit anyway!
The cathedral itself was built in the 14th century on the remains of a mosque from the once there settled Moors.
It is now part of world heritage.
Funny fact: There was obviously another blogger there walking around (I guess even also from Mein Schiff 2) and she was counting the steps up to the Cathedral.
Well, to be honest I don’t even want to know that specificly, instead let me talk with some pictures her. If you want to know more about, check this page:
So, what are you gonna do, when you’ve reached the top? Right, you go down again.
So after enjoying the amazing view from top we felt again how heavily the sun was burning.
Truly, I am not a wimp and also I have no contract with some weather guys to point out all the time this weather topic, but Ibiza was during our whole trip the climax regarding heat.
So the way back down to harbor and old town was really graeful, because there was waiting for us cool fresh drinking water.
Arriving there again meant also one thing for us: Visiting the local Hard Rock Cafe!
I decided to buy here an amazing muscle-shirt, yeah!
Parties in Ibiza
Ibiza vacation should definitely include a visit to one of those legendary clubs.
Everywhere in Ibiza (except the Cathedral) you feel that party spirit.
Young and – let’s call them good looking people all over. More or less lightly dressed.
The spirit from legendary clubs like “Pacha”, “Space”, “Amnesia” and truly countless more is a trademark of this place.
And also the dissoluting luxurious party making – here you can easily spend some monthly salaries within one wild night.
The ibizanerian audience is of course international. Americans, Europeans, Russians – here is the Jetset celebrating together with Hippies – one big party.
Ibiza truly has it’s own charm, this relaxed sea lifestyle, permanent sun, the tendencies to mundane and always this party and lifeloving potential, a very interesting combination.
Well, we didn’t have that much time to discover the island, so we decided to spend the rest of the day with strolling through Ibiza’s beautiful streets and making the one or other photo session, before we went back to our ship in the early evening hours.
Well, to be blunt – that’s the end of our mediterranean journey 2015. After having an amazing evening on deck of Mein Schiff 2 with cocktails and many other treats we reached the next morning again the starting point of our trip – the harbor of Mallorca.
Now it is so, that TUI Cruises is offering you the whole package including flight from and to the Crusie ship and all transfers – so the allround carefree package.
We decided not to end our holiday so sudden, instead we stood one day longer in Mallorca.
For our stay I planned something exquisite as a worthy ending of our vacation. So the surprising was perfect, when we checked in the Gran Melia Victoria 5 Star deluxe. A place full of luxury.
There is not much to say, instead of everything there was superior – rooms and all these extras that you might expect from this kind of category (including walk-in closet) and a whole Clarin’s beauty-Set. It could not have ended better, truly not. If there wouldn’t be this story with gigantic cockroaches.
Yes, you read correct, three specimen of this vermin were greeting us in the bathroom in the morning, directly after waking up.
There are nicer things for sure. Maybe I wouldn’t even have mentioned this story, but the subsequent appeasing of the reception lady after I told her about this made me telling this here.
Yes, this might happen to everyone, not blaming, but it’s the way of how you take this problem and make someone to feel taken seriously, when a guest is telling you about such an unpleasant happening.
Well, that would have been that. If this was the only bad thing on our journey, we are totally fine with it.
And looking back we can only admit, that this cruise with TUI Cruises was once more an unforgettable highlight and holiday of superior class. Service, the route, staff, everything was perfect and obviously the next cruise will be with TUI again.
Tips for your next Ibiza vacation
And shortly a summary of all beauties and pearls that one just has to see once visit Ibiza:
- Hippy markets.
Yes, there is a market where artists and musicians or anyone else can sell and buy clothes and other stuff.
- Boat trips to Formentera.
A wonderful island close to Ibiza. Very peaceful, and worth for a boat trips. Takes around 30 minutes. Unfortunately we did not visit it, due to lack of time, but for the blog readers we give all the best tips and even better tips than for ourselves, so take a look and judge by yourselves: Look here
Just one more thing to add about this island Formentera is that, it is separated from Ibiza with a narrow strait of water.
- Visit Ibiza beaches.
Ibiza has clean and beautiful beaches. Cala Jondal, Las Salinas, Playa Mitjorn and many more.
- Explore Ses Salines National Park. It is located in southern Ibiza region.
This area includes virgin beaches, around 200 species of different kinds of plant lives, a lot of different kinds of birds (our favourites of course). It is simply beautiful.
