And now lets switch back to the Berlin Festival of Lights…
That festival of lights is happening this year for the 10th time and from 9th til 18th of october some of the most well known and important landmarks and attractions like Brandenburger Tor, TV Tower, the new Main trainstation or the Dome of Berlin are covered in amazing and beautiful illuminations.
Motive projections, lasershows and many other stunning light effects will guarantee that you discover even already well known buildings in a completely new and fascinating way.
Each building gets irradiated individually due to their own specific architecture with unique pictures, forms, colours and also video sequences.
The diversity and the permanently changing character of the illumination will definitely make an impression on you.
Berlin gets visited just because of this event at least by more than one million visitors additionally and is presenting itself from one of their nicest and brightest side during these days.
Autumn itself which usually is described as the misty, cloudy and wet season (indeed – while I am writing these lines it is raining heavily since this morning) gets a very own special highlight and brings up good moods and happy faces.
Due to the average sunset time at around 6:20 pm the illumination starts at 7 pm and ends up at midnight.
And the best thing here is the fact, that the whole event is like so many other events in Berlin for free 🙂
But for those of you, who like it a bit more individual, with program or more information based with a guided tour – you are in Berlin, the event city No. 1 and you have here all the possibilities.
So what do we have concrete?
Maybe you’d like to go around on a bus tour, lightened taxis, a bit more decadent in a private limousine or on one of the countless ship- and boat tours at the river Spree.
Romantical carriages are also offered as well as the stunning view from 150 metres high up Berlin Hi-Flyer helium balloon.
Long story short: There is at least something for everyone, your part is just to do it 🙂
Well, someone might think, that the festival of lights is financed generously by the city Berlin like in so many other cases – but no!
The whole event is completely sponsors financed.
Some of the sponsors are next to energy companies like EON also the city Macau in China, which is not only because of their own impressive light installations in the city itself an ideal partner of this show.
Please let me come up now here at this point with some facts and numbers about the Festival of Lights. The FoL officially consits of illuminations, projections, video art, mappins as well as light installations.
Last year 2014 there were more than 2 million visitors, more than two million web visits and a total coverage of around 1.2 billion people worldwide!
Hats off! These numbers are pretty impressive.
Meanwhile there are similar shows in New York.
Planned or already started are events in Canada, China, South america and other places.
I think we can call this a success story…
During the FoL there are countless other events related to this “mother event”.
In the Dome of Berlin for example there are some additional extra concerts like the successful “Vivaldi meets Gospel & Soul”, where the classical “Four Seasons” meets the voices of Gospel stars like Daniel de la Fuente, Ingrid Arthur, Jenna Akua, Monica Lewis Schmidt and other great singers.
A novelty also this year is the illuminations-championship, where everyone can vote for the most spectacular light presentation at the Brandenburger Tor.
More information and background stories you will find on the official homepage of the “Festival of Lights”- makers: festival-of-lights.de/en
Another highlight is the so called “Jazz in the Minister gardens”. Here we have – as the name says – Jazz concerts in the representations of the German federal states Brandenburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Schleswig Holstein.
Maybe that’s interesting for all those, who are not so really into Vivaldi or maybe even who are still hungry for more melodies after listening “The four seasons” in Gospel style…
Many other events to visit, partly even in an official political framework like the “Make Light Lab”, which is a workshop from 10th til 18th of october and which gives inside views to the world of photonic with the goal to animate people to get in touch with these topics in an easy and playful way.
So literally and shortly something for everyone, a program full with superlatives. As an overview for all of you who are now more interested here we have the official list of all locations and presentations.

But on the other hand might be Berlin simply too big for these kind of adventures and a rough direction guide might be helpful in any way.
The Festival of Lights – of course we strongly recommend, even though we didn’t really manage this year to see all events with our own eyes due to simply lack of time, but the impressions we made so far during our boat trip we want to share with you and all the pictures you will find as usual in our gallery.
Stay Berlin-thrilled! Autumnal-adorable greetings from your Hendrik 🙂
