Hola, Señoras y señores – we arrive now already to the prelast station of our mediterranean cruise 2015 with Mein Schiff 2, the great Barcelona!
After going eastwards over the Mediterranean sea for nearly two weeks and visiting amazing places like Provence and Côte d’azure in France, Italy’s Liguria and amazing Monte Carlo, it was now time to come back to Spain for Barcelona holidays!
Well, we saw now so many places full of sunshine, easiness and Savoir vivre and this legendary city, founded by Hercules received us in its own way!
We arrived in Barcelona the evening and a big rainy storm was waiting for us while we were walking down Las Ramblas.
First impressions – very wet.
So we decided to go back to the ship after about 30 minutes and having tea and snacks instead. First try to enter this wonderful city was unfortunately not so successful.
But already in the next morning everything seemed to be brighter, sky was cloudy, but it was still warm. Second try to enter Barcelona –Succeed!
Things to see during your Barcelona Holidays
The next question was – how to explore this gigantic city . It felt like there were one thousand places to see in just one day?
As the dilligent travelwithbird-readers know, we made our first good experiences on our Madrid trip with “Hop on & Hop off busses”, so now it was time to explore Barcelonas “Hop on & Hop off busses”.
It is also possible to buy the tour ticket online here barcelonacitytour.com.
I recommend to buy the tickets online if possible, then you get a discount -price!
So now the time has come to hop on and tart the journey! We took the route to the Plaza Catalunya.
A gather together place number one, which is the beginning of the famous Las Ramblas streets, which consists of five different streets.
It is commonly called only as one street “ La Rambla” even though this name developed with time, since 5 street combined this one huge boulevard.
Las Ramblas is a fascinating tourist destination, it is full of performing artists, that want to show their costumes and talents, salesmen that try to sale their products, kiosks, bars and cafes.
I want to mention also that there is this Beethoven Casa located on La Rambla.
Beethoven Casa is a tiny store, full of notes of different composers. The notes are from great editions.
I actually found what I was searching for. For those that got interested, here is the link with the exact location: casabeethoven.com.
Actually worth to buy something from there in any case – you get this beautiful plastic bag with a portrait of Beethoven himself.
My first impression about Barcelona, well intensive contemporary rock-n-roll scene is absolutely in the air in this city.
Barcelona is a center of contemporary art. There is located a museum, which helds many different exhibitions during the whole year.
Check out the upcoming exhibitions here macba.cat.
Barcelonas architecture is maybe one of the most important reasons that bring millions of tourists to the city year by year.
World- famous architect Gaudi has fairly achieved the title of being the king of Art Nouveau style. When he graduated, he was claimed to be either genius or a madman.
BBC is writing more about Gaudi bbc.com.
Maybe it’s not a bad idea to read and have an own, silent opinion on it 🙂
Here we have some of the shots of his works that we took during our stay in Barcelona.
Of course also the famous La Sagrada Familia. Gaudi was the second architect on this huge work.
First one was Francisco de Paula del Villar, but later on Gaudi took over the project.
After he took over the project, he changed the whole design of the church drastically. What is fascinating about this church is, that it took over than 200 years to build it. In comparison – the Pyramids – took just few decades.
La Boqueria –Barcelona Holidays
La Boqueria deserves its own chapter and here it comes with the temptating pictures!
This is Barcelonas biggest fresh market. It offers you variety of all kinds of products: fruits, shakes, sweets, nuts, dried fruits, fish, meat, cheese, wine and more!
Eyes get easily drunk in La Boqueria, because of the huge amount and variety of these products! Your nose gets overloaded with different kind of exotic, delicious scents of these products! And your ears… well just loud, a lot of people 🙂

Camp Nou stadium is the home of Barcelona Futbol Club, Barca since already 1957.
The Stadium is the biggest in Europe ( Capacity of 100 000 people). We did not enter the stadium, because wanted to save this moment for the next time when there will be a game on!
Close to the stadium is located the museum called FC Barcelona museum.
This museum is claimed to be most visited one in whole city. Speaking about sports.
Nowadays Barcelona is the most famous city with a wonderful coast. This was different before 1992. The beaches were decided to be built artificially because Barcelona held the Summer Olympic Games of 1992.
And lastly, a summary list of the things to see and do during your next Barcelona holidays:
Go to a concert or a ballet.
Barcelona has wide range of different types of concerts. Maybe visiting Gran Teatre del Liceu. Beautiful theater from inside, definitely worth to see.
Tickets are not always as expensive as first one might think. Do not always think that everything has the same pricing as in Paris or Milan. Hesitating about the program? Check it out on their homepage – liceubarcelona.cat
Explore the modernism and the buildings of Gaudi: Sagrada Familia, Casa Batillo and many more.
Try out Pinchos in Barcelona! Barcelona offers countless amount of Pinchos (Pintxos) bars.
Never heard about Pinchos? Similar to tapas, called more often as tapas on bread, but guys, nothing is so simple 😉
Pintxos can be anything from hot to cold, from sweet to salty. Anything you can imagine!
I really liked the list of Pincho bars on suitelife.com : suitelife.com
Montjuïc hill offers tourists a splendid view to Barcelona city. From this smaller mountain you can see till where Barcelona city is spread up.
And also from where it starts…
Palau Nacional (Better said National Palace). Place where many international exhibitions are held.
Check out the most famous market “ Boqueria”, but do not forget about Santa Caterina. I would suppose that every tourist guide would lead you to check out the Boqueria market, but yes of course, have a look at it. It is full of any kinds of goods, a lot of people, tourists wandering around, pretty crowded. Santa Caterina has more space for walking and is less hectic.
